Risks of ATVs
“Too Young, Too Fast, Too Furious” [July 26] was one-sided. Skateboards and bicycles bring more kids to the emergency room every year than ATVs. Properly supervised kids on ATVs are safe and have a low incidence of injury.

I have never understood why safety equipment seems to be absent on the dunes, while kids in the desert wear it. The photographs in The Times showed most riders in short sleeves, tennis shoes and no chest protectors. No surprise the local hospital sees so many injuries.
