Cox Resigns Seat to Assume His New Post
Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Newport Beach) formally resigned from the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday to assume his new position as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Confirmed to the position by the U.S. Senate on July 29, Cox, 52, is expected to be sworn in as SEC chairman today and begin working at the commission on Thursday.
Cox, a self-described free-market conservative in Congress since 1988, takes over the SEC from William H. Donaldson, who quit as chairman June 30 after two years in the job.
