Volvos Being Probed for Possible Faulty Throttle

Federal regulators have opened an investigation into potentially faulty electronic throttle controls on more than 260,000 Volvo cars and sport utility vehicles of the 1999-2001 model years.

The probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration follows a lawsuit in California alleging that Volvo knew the parts, called engine control modules, were defective and failed to alert vehicle owners.

The investigation began July 26, according to documents posted on NHTSA’s website.

A Volvo spokesman said the company was “cooperating with NHTSA.”
