The other side of hospital care
I know Rachel Sobel’s article [“A Student of Solace and Love,” Aug. 1] was meant to be an inspirational chicken-soupish tale of a young doctor learning about the true meaning of love from her patients.
To me, it read like a laundry list of everything that is wrong with hospital care. Young doctors working 30 hours in a row. (Is there anyone who would like to be cared for by that person at the end of hour 29?) A nursing staff so short they don’t have time to deal with oozing tumors. And a culture so callous that they let the wife of a dying man sleep on a hard floor rather than finding her a cot or another bed.
