Zito Can Have a Relaxing Day

Share

On the day he is inducted into racing’s Hall Of Fame, trainer Nick Zito won’t have a runner in the $150,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame, today’s feature at Saratoga.

Nine 3-year-old turf specialists were entered in the Grade II at 1 1/8 miles, including co-highweight Rey de Cafe.

Owned by breeder G. Watts Humphrey and trained by Rusty Arnold, the son of Kingmambo will be looking for his fourth win in eight starts on turf in what will be his Saratoga debut.

Rey De Cafe already has won two graded stakes in 2005, taking the American Turf at Churchill Downs on May 6 and the Hill Prince on June 10 at Belmont Park. Javier Castellano will ride.

Other contenders include Silver Whistle, who has won two of four on turf for owner Frank Stronach and trainer Bill Mott, T.D. Vance, Interpatation, High Limit and Lexington runner-up Reel Legend.

Owned by Gary and Mary West and trained by Bobby Frankel, High Limit will be making his first start on the turf. The Maria’s Mon colt is winless in four starts since going wire-to-wire in the Louisiana Derby on March 12 at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans.

Race of the day: Celtic Sword, who returned after a layoff of more than 13 months to win at Hollywood Park on July 9, will make his first start on the Del Mar turf course in today’s sixth. Martin Pedroza will ride the 6-year-old Hidden Prize gelding for Naify and Woodside Farm LLC and trainer Julio Canani, who won with six of his first 12 starters at the meet, in the $61,000 optional claimer at five furlongs. Other contenders in the second leg of the pick four include Crosscut, Spencer’s Magic, Sex Machine and Greenie.

One for the road: Vision Quest makes her debut for trainer Patrick Biancone and can win the fourth at Saratoga. Gary Stevens, who rode a first out winner for the stable on Saturday, has the call on the 2-year-old daughter of Seeking The Gold in the $45,000 maiden contest at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Dreamabull, La Vida Dulce and Lyndee’s Pearl in the second, Ludicrous Speed in the third and Winning Tactics, Lil Mitch, Awesome Graf and Travelin’ Jack in the fourth.
