Katy Rzonca, 80, the mayor of Walnut, died Saturday at her home of pancreatic cancer, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. She was appointed to the City Council in February 2003 to replace Miles Nan, who had resigned.
At one time, Rzonca pulled weeds at Suzanne Park so children could play ball there. She was also involved with the Walnut Valley Food Bank, the Special Olympics and the Walnut Family Festival.
