Machine Operator Held in Transient’s Death
A 27-year-old man was in custody for allegedly killing a transient at a school playground before fleeing on a bike, officials said Friday.
Gilberto Bautista, a machine operator who police said had been deported to Mexico and returned illegally, was arrested late Thursday and was being held at Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder. Bail was set at $1 million, police said.
Julio Alberto Hernandez, 24, a transient who frequented Stanton, was found shot to death at Mabel Carver Elementary School on Wednesday night, police said.
