Contamination Closes Park Built Over Dump
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A dump transformed into a 35-acre park has been closed after toxic contamination was found at a soccer field and at a off-leash dog area, city officials said.
The city posted signs earlier this summer and fenced off community gardens and another soccer field after initial soil tests. Park entrances were closed Friday.
The park’s perimeter will be fenced within a week. Only a soccer area at the park’s northern end and a community center will remain open.
