San Remy’s Stock on the Rise

Share

San Remy has proved to be a profitable claim for owner Jim Kwong and trainer Lloyd Mason.

Taken for $20,000 on April 2 at Bay Meadows, the 4-year-old Danehill gelding has won three of five since then and was second in one of his losses.

San Remy will try for another victory this afternoon when he makes his Del Mar debut in the seventh, a $63,000 optional claimer at 1 3/8 miles on turf.

An Irish-bred who began his career in Europe, San Remy has earned all three of his wins on the grass for Kwong and Mason, who is winning at an 18% rate in 2005. Two of his three victories have come at today’s distance, the latest a 3 1/2 -length win as the 3-5 favorite on Aug. 3 at Santa Rosa.

Tyler Baze, who is suffering through a forgettable meet, has the call on San Remy.

The rest of the field includes the T N T Stud-owned entry of Much Faster and Made In Brasil, Private Chef, It’s Quite Unusual, Johnny Red Kerr, Gentlestone, Donnybrook Pride and Overland Road.

Race of the day: Reunited, who has won three of four, will meet a solid field of 3-year-old fillies today in the $75,000 Victory Ride at Saratoga. Owned by Will Farish and trained by Neil Howard, Reunited, a daughter of Dixie Union, won by 6 3/4 lengths in her first start over the track on Aug. 5. She will be ridden by Robby Albarado in the six-furlong race. The rest of the field is a combined 19 of 46.

One for the road: Car Lady gets an aggressive bump in class as she debuts for high-percentage trainer Kent Molinaro in today’s third at the Bay Meadows Fair. Roberto Gonzalez will ride the 4-year-old Distinctive Cat filly, who is owned in part by Molinaro, in the $25,000 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs. She was taken for $12,500 out of a runner-up try on July 28 at Santa Rosa. Molinaro has won with 15 of 31 starters this year.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Rushing Wild, Really Suspect and Presumption in the sixth, Private Chef, San Remy and Johnny Red Kerr in the seventh and Radio Amore and Princess McLean in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 1/79. Money: Previous day/meet total: $3/$467.20. Total money bet: $530.
