From Times Wire Reports

Phillip Snyder, an American missionary who had been shot and kidnapped, was released after his attackers received a ransom, Haitian police said.

Commissioner Francois Henri Doussous, head of Haiti’s anti-kidnapping unit, said the sum was “much less” than the $300,000 the kidnappers initially sought. It was not immediately clear who paid the ransom.

Doussous said the kidnappers were members of criminal gangs based in Cite Soleil, a sprawling seaside slum.
