Simon Starling won Britain’s coveted Turner Prize for modern art Monday for “Shedboatshed,” a shed he turned into a boat, floated down the Rhine and then rebuilt as a shed.

The three other artists who had been in the running were Gillian Carnegie, Jim Lambie and Darren Almond.

The Turner invariably stirs controversy, and this year was no exception, with figurative artists staging a demonstration outside London’s Tate Britain museum.
