From Times Wire Reports

State Republican Party leaders meeting in Albany recommended that Jeanine Pirro abandon her struggling campaign to challenge Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and instead run for state attorney general.

State GOP Chairman Stephen Minarik said that no vote was taken but that the recommendation was the consensus of the county leaders. Rockland County Chairman Vincent Reda said support for a Pirro switch was “overwhelming.”

Pirro issued a terse response: “I remain a candidate for U.S. Senate, but I greatly respect the opinion of the county chairs and their confidence in my abilities as a statewide candidate,” said the Westchester County district attorney.
