Officials Say Death Toll in Clash Tops 300
From Times Wire Reports
Officials in Chad said 300 militants died in a clash with government forces in an eastern town, triple the original toll reported.
Five soldiers and three civilians also died in Sunday’s clash in Adre, 620 miles east of the capital, N’Djamena, the army said in a statement on state-run radio.
The clash was with two rebel groups -- the Rally for Democracy and Liberty and the Foundation for Change, Unity and Democracy, the army said. Rebel representatives were not available for comment.
