Egyptian Detainee Freed After 3 Years in Custody

A terrorism suspect detained without trial for more than three years has been released, the British government said.
Home Secretary Charles Clarke did not say what had prompted the decision to free the Egyptian man, identified only as C.
In a statement, Clarke said C. had been freed Monday, the same day another suspect, Palestinian Mahmoud Abu Rideh, had been granted bail. C.’s lawyer said he had been freed without conditions.
The two were among 11 foreigners held without charge under legislation passed after the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S.
