Batteast Carries Notre Dame

Jacqueline Batteast scored all 15 of her points in the second half, and sixth-ranked Notre Dame held No. 16 Boston College scoreless for five minutes down the stretch in a 64-57 Big East Conference victory Wednesday night at South Bend, Ind.

The Eagles, who fell to 15-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference, went ahead 54-53 when Lisa Macchia scored inside with 6:45 left. But the Irish (19-3, 7-2) took the control with an 8-0 run, getting four of their points from baskets inside. It started with Batteast going around Macchia to score.

Batteast was double-teamed down low on Notre Dame’s next possession but passed to Teresa Borton, who was wide open for a basket.

After Macchia was called for traveling, Courtney LaVere made a 15-foot shot to put the game away.

Borton had 12 points for the Irish, who outscored the Eagles, 44-18, inside despite being outrebounded, 45-32.

Clare Droesch led Boston College with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 8 Baylor 72, No. 15 Kansas State 62 -- Emily Neimann sparked a second-half run by making three consecutive baskets and Jordan Davis had a season-best 17 points to lead the Bears (16-3, 6-2) over the Wildcats (16-4, 7-2) in a Big 12 game at Waco, Texas.

Steffanie Blackmon had 21 points and Sophia Young had 15 points and 13 rebounds for Baylor, which extended its home winning streak to 13 games.

No. 13 Texas 77, Texas A&M; 62 -- Tiffany Jackson had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Longhorns (13-6, 6-2) over the Aggies (11-8, 2-7) in a Big 12 game at Austin, Texas.

Jackson made her first nine shots and went 11 of 15 overall as Texas routinely dumped the ball into the post for easy baskets. Texas outscored A&M;, 52-18, in the paint and held a 41-28 edge in rebounding.

No. 19 Iowa State 103, Colorado 76 -- Megan Ronhovde made all six of her three-point shots in scoring a career-high 24 points, and Anne O’Neil missed a triple-double by one rebound to lead the Cyclones (17-2, 7-1) over the Buffaloes (8-11, 1-7) in a Big 12 game at Ames, Iowa. O’Neil had 18 points and 10 assists.
