From a Times staff writer

Wayne Brady, who was to star as Billy Flynn in the Los Angeles engagement of the national tour of “Chicago,” has had to bow out due to a strained voice. An understudy, Lloyd Culbreath, filled in for him at a preview Tuesday night; as of Wednesday’s official opening, he was being replaced by Gregory Harrison.

Harrison, who has been playing the role in the national tour for more than a year, will remain in the musical for the L.A. run, which continues at the Pantages Theatre through Feb. 20.

Brady ended a three-month run in the show on Broadway in early December.

After experiencing vocal strain during the past week, he was advised by his doctor to withdraw from the L.A. engagement.
