TV producer’s address scrubbed

After complaining about an episode of the PBS children’s series “Postcards From Buster” that contained scenes of a family headed by a lesbian couple, the U.S. Department of Education has withdrawn an invitation for the show’s executive producer to speak at a conference in Baltimore today, Broadcasting & Cable reported Thursday.
The trade publication said it had been told by officials at PBS and WGBH-TV, the Boston station that produces “Postcards From Buster,” that Carol Greenwald was “disinvited” from addressing the children’s TV meeting sponsored by PBS and the Department of Education. Spokesmen for the agency did not return calls for comment, the publication said.
The episode that drew criticism from Education Secretary Margaret Spellings was withdrawn from distribution by PBS. WGBH said it would make the program available itself, and at least two-dozen public television stations -- including KCET here -- plan to broadcast it as scheduled Tuesday.
