Our Foreign Policies Fuel Violence at Home

I read with wonder your report of how New Yorkers are surprised about the violent death of actress Nicole duFresne on Jan. 28 (Feb. 6). Why wouldn’t our streets become more violent in light of our actions throughout the world? When are we going to make the connection that as long as we use violence to settle our disagreements with other regions of the world we tell our youth that violence is a valid remedy to disagreements? When are we going to learn that a robust economy with a strong middle class and living wages will do more to promote safe streets? Once we adopt positions of peace and nonviolence as our national security policy, then we will stem the tide of violence at home.
