When he’s in L.A., this ‘castaway’ likes to play

As Sawyer, the ruthless con artist pilfering supplies from his fellow castaways on ABC’s “Lost,” Josh Holloway has established himself as a slithering yet sexy villain. So it may come as a disappointment to those entranced with his charm that the first word the Georgia-raised former model uses to describe himself is “goofball.”

Holloway, 35, is happy to dispel other myths about himself. This “overnight” success moved to L.A. eight years ago, struggling to break into Hollywood with bit parts on “CSI” and “Navy NCIS.” His “Lost” success isn’t his only reason to celebrate: He recently married his longtime girlfriend, Yessica. Though he spends much of the year in Hawaii shooting the series, his new wife and their West Hollywood home are only a plane ride away.

Steaks and romance

Friday nights, Yessie and I go to the Little Door. It’s this really beautiful, quaint restaurant. That’s where we went on our first date, so it’s a special place for us. We’re big steak lovers, so it’s either the filet mignon or the rib-eye. I grew up in the South, where it’s all about steak and venison and fried, fried, fried, which I can’t really do anymore. For a martini, we’ll head to Lola’s on Fairfax. I love the PMP, which is pineapple, mango and passion fruit with vodka. Then we come home and romance a bit. We’ve been together for five years, but some things never change, and that’s why I think we’ll last forever.

When it comes to breakfast, we both love huevos rancheros. Boy, do they make a good one at Los Burritos. That dish was a new development for both of us, because when we were dating we took an impromptu road trip through Mexico, just grabbing hotels and camping, and we fell in love with the food.

After breakfast we drive down to Marina del Rey. Before I started working on “Lost” I had a 37-foot fishing boat, all teak and mahogany. I loved having it, but it required constant maintenance.

Just chillin’

We still like to hang out on the beach, though, either at Venice or in Redondo. Yessica’s family and my brother are in the area, so we like to all get together at the Banyan Tree, this traditional Indonesian restaurant in Manhattan Beach. After dinner we like to walk around the town there and listen to live music. I love stuff like Tool and Ministry, but at a little bar, I like to hear folk rock and just chill.

If we can’t find anything good to listen to, we’re suckers for a good swashbuckler film. We loved “Pirates of the Caribbean” and anything like “Indiana Jones.” But we also love the, shall we say, more credible films. “Punch-Drunk Love,” “City of God” and anything by Daniel Day-Lewis.

Up, up and away

On Sundays we go to Michel Richard on Robertson for the eggs benedict. We’ll stop in at shops like Kitson and Poleci, then maybe have a coffee. And once or twice a month we leave the city and go out to Gorman or Ojai to camp. I love to dirt bike, and we’ll either ride or hike for hours on the trails. I have a friend who’s a paragliding instructor in the Santa Barbara Mountains, and we’ll go visit him sometimes. He’ll strap me to him in a tandem, and we’ll go off the side of a mountain. He can stay up for an hour and 40 minutes. The record for staying up is seven hours, but I’d get sick after that long.
