Mosul Attacks Leave 2 U.S. Soldiers Dead

Two U.S. soldiers have been killed in separate attacks in this northern Iraqi city, the U.S. military announced.

In the first attack, a car bomb exploded next to a U.S. army patrol Wednesday, killing one soldier and wounding three, the military said in a statement Thursday.

In the second incident, a soldier was shot dead Thursday in an exchange of fire with guerrillas, the military announced today.

Neither was identified.

At least 1,461 U.S. service members have died since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

U.S. troops have been battling to keep order in Mosul, where an insurgency broke out in November. The 8,000-strong U.S. force in Mosul has said it is steadily returning stability.
