Paul Roye, head of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s mutual fund division, is quitting in March after leading the agency’s regulatory overhaul of the $8.1-trillion industry.

Roye, 51, said Friday that he planned to “decompress” before looking for another job. In six years as the SEC’s investment management chief, he presided over the most active period of fund regulation since 1940.
