An Easy Victory for Rutgers

Cappie Pondexter scored 14 points and led a 15-0 spurt that carried ninth-ranked Rutgers to a 54-36 victory Tuesday night over No. 24 Boston College at Piscataway, N.J.

Chelsea Newton added 12 points in her final home game as Rutgers, 21-5 overall and 12-2 in the Big East, won its sixth straight and maintained the inside track to its first regular-season conference title. The 36 points were a season-low for Boston College (17-8, 8-6), and its lowest total in a game since a 48-35 loss to Villanova on Jan. 31, 1998.

No. 11 Connecticut 97, Pittsburgh 49 -- Ashley Battle scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Huskies at Storrs, Conn.

The Huskies (19-6, 12-2 Big East) posted their second-highest point total of the season and forced the Panthers (12-13, 4-10) into 22 turnovers.
