Senate Panels Approve Two Cabinet Nominees
Senate committees recommended the confirmation of President Bush’s nominees for the secretaries of Education and Commerce.
Margaret Spellings, the Education nominee, received praise and friendly questions at her confirmation hearing before the Senate Education Committee, which unanimously recommended Senate confirmation, expected soon.
The Senate Commerce Committee said it recommended the confirmation of Kellogg Co. Chief Executive Carlos Gutierrez as secretary of Commerce following a hearing, which was held Wednesday. His nomination also goes to the full Senate for final approval.
