Taiwan’s Aid Pledges
Re “China Steps Up to Role of Rising Regional Leader,” Jan. 6: The tsunami disaster has rallied the international community into unprecedented generosity with donations of humanitarian aid. This includes the government of Taiwan, which has pledged $50 million to the recovery effort. In addition, the citizens of Taiwan continue to come forward with donations from private organizations and ordinary people. Taiwan’s generosity, however, has been omitted in lists of donor countries carried in The Times. Taiwan has also been excluded from the aid summit. It should be known that Taiwan continues to support the relief effort in every way possible and should be recognized accordingly.
