Capriati Will Miss Open
Jennifer Capriati will miss the Australian Open because of a shoulder injury, withdrawing from the grand slam event she won in 2001 and 2002.
Tournament organizers said today that Capriati had advised the WTA that she hadn’t recovered from the injury sustained at the Advanta Championships in November.
Capriati, defending champion Justine Henin-Hardenne and Kim Clijsters have withdrawn from the tournament, which begins Monday.
Henin-Hardenne has a knee injury and Clijsters has a recurring wrist problem. Henin-Hardenne and Capriati pulled out of this week’s Medibank Sydney International.
