Sweet Catomine Ready to Give It a Go Again

Sweet Catomine will try again today to make her 3-year-old debut.

Scratched out of the Santa Ysabel Stakes a week ago before the race was canceled along with the rest of the card because of heavy rain, the soon-to-be-Eclipse champion as the country’s top 2-year-old filly will be a heavy favorite to win the rescheduled Santa Ysabel, a Grade III at 1 1/16 miles.

Owned by Pam and Marty Wygod and trained by Julio Canani, the daughter of Storm Cat will be seeking her fourth win in five starts in her first appearance since her authoritative win against 11 others in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Oct. 30 at Lone Star Park in Texas.

Second in her lone defeat, Sweet Catomine, who was bred in Kentucky by her owners, will be ridden by David Flores because Corey Nakatani, who has been aboard for all of her victories, is still in the midst of a 30-day suspension.

Later on the card, A.P. Adventure returns to her favorite track against Elusive Diva and six other 4-year-old fillies in the $150,000 El Encino Stakes, a Grade II at 1 1/16 miles.

Trained by Wally Dollase for owners Bob and Beverly Lewis, A.P. Adventure has earned all three of her wins at Santa Anita, including victories in the Santa Ysabel and Las Virgenes. Rene Douglas will ride the A.P. Indy miss for the first time.

Race of the day: Amazing Buy, who beat maidens by 10 1/2 lengths in her second career start on New Year’s Day, will stretch out to a mile and 70 yards in the $75,000 Busanda today at Aqueduct. Norberto Arroyo Jr. will ride the 3-year-old High Yield filly for Ernie Paragallo’s Paraneck Stable and trainer Jennifer Pedersen against Pelham Bay, Coded Princess, Dancin On Broadway, Pretty Partisan and Rahys’ Appeal.

One for the road: Metallic Moon looked good winning in his first for trainer Dominic Galluscio a week ago and can win right back in today’s fifth at Aqueduct. Arroyo will ride the 4-year-old Migrating Moon colt in the $46,000 allowance at 1 1/8 miles.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Elusive Diva and A.P. Adventure in the seventh, Burnished Steel and Lady Sabrina in the eighth and Mr. Splash and Gaddingabout in the ninth.
