U.S., Israeli Pressure Prompts Official’s Exit

Secretary-General Kofi Annan decided not to reappoint the head of the U.N. relief agency for Palestinians because of opposition by Israel and the United States, U.N. officials said.
The United States made clear that some funding was threatened if Peter Hansen remained, the officials said. Israel says the agency lets militants use its facilities.
