Solis Begins His Comeback After July Spill at Del Mar

For the first time since July, jockey Alex Solis will get on some horses today.

Riding them in races is about two or three weeks off, but Solis will begin to exercise them in the mornings at Santa Anita. He’s coming back from a spill on July 23 at Del Mar, where he fractured a vertebra and broke three ribs.

“I just got the green light from the doctor,” Solis said Thursday night. “I’m real excited. Once I get going, we’ll just have to see how it comes along before I start taking mounts again.”

Solis, 40, was leading the country in purses with $11.5 million when he was injured. He still finished in ninth place for 2004.
