On the right track to an organized workout

Keeping track of daily weight workouts in the gym can be a cumbersome task. Some people lug around well-worn notebooks; others keep track of routines on their PDAs. Both can get damaged or lost. Fitrack is a series of small cards for logging workouts that are kept in a plastic holder and clipped to a waistband or worn around the neck.

Fitrack: It was Greg Perez’s success with fitness that prompted him to invent Fitrack. About 12 years ago, the Claremont resident was out of shape, overweight and suffering from arthritis. He decided to get on an exercise and diet program, and dropped 30 pounds.

Although he was getting good results from his workouts, sometimes he’d realize that he’d forgotten to do an exercise. “I noticed that some people kept a log,” he says, “and I thought it would be so cool to have something like that that’s hands-free.”

He developed Fitrack, a set of cards kept in a plastic sleeve along with a small pencil. The cards feature stick-figure illustrations of various upper- and lower-body exercises on one side, and spaces for noting sets, reps and weights on the other. Marks can be erased and the cards reused. Because the illustrations are quite basic, beginners might want to consult with a personal trainer to learn how to do the exercises correctly and safely.

Separate sets are available for men and women. Perez says the men’s routines concentrate more on the upper body, while the women’s is a more comprehensive workout.
