Memorial Service Set for Romance Novelist, Journalist Joan Sweeney

A memorial service for journalist and romance novelist Joan Sweeney is scheduled at 3 p.m. Wednesday at American Martyrs Catholic Church, 624 15th St., Manhattan Beach.

Sweeney died Saturday of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. She was 68.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Assn., 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301.
