UAL Corp.’s United Airlines, which filed for bankruptcy protection in 2002, must make payments on bonds used to build facilities at Los Angeles International Airport or risk losing its lease, a U.S. judge ruled.

U.S. District Judge John Darrah in Illinois, in an opinion released Thursday, overturned a Bankruptcy Court ruling that the airline could defer payments on the bonds. UAL previously said there were $59 million of L.A. airport bonds outstanding.

UAL last year was ordered to pay interest on bonds sold for facilities at the San Francisco and Denver airports.
