Targeting Gays

Re “Education Secretary Criticizes PBS Show With Gay Couples,” Jan. 26: Once again the Bush administration has shown its compassionate conservative side. Lesbian cartoons? Who cares? Men and women are dying in an unjust war in Iraq. But, to keep the fodder coming for its war machine, the Bush administration has to keep its hate-mongering base inflamed by throwing them some “red meat.” Gays and lesbians are easy targets since they do not have equal civil rights in the U.S.
