From Times Wire Reports

A wildfire near a rural subdivision of Wetmore grew to 1,500 acres. More than three dozen homes were evacuated, and residents piled their vehicles full of children, pets, and everything from paintings to paperwork.

“People were afraid, but it was very orderly. Nobody really panicked,” fire information officer Steve Segin said. “I saw cars that were full of children, full of dogs.”

Air tankers and ground crews, working in temperatures near 100 degrees, were keeping the flames away from homes 100 miles south of Denver, Segin said.
