‘Fog Finds Way to Calder

Lost In The Fog, arguably the most talented sprinter in the country, will be a short price to remain perfect in eight races in the $300,000 Carry Back today at Calder Race Course in Miami.

The Carry Back is part of the track’s annual Summit of Speed and is the concluding leg of an all-stakes pick five with a guaranteed pool of $500,000. Other races in the sequence are the $300,000 Azalea Breeders’ Cup, the $500,000 Smile Sprint Handicap, the $100,000 Calder Turf Sprint Handicap and the $500,000 Princess Rooney Handicap.

Owned by Harry Aleo and trained by Greg Gilchrist, Lost In The Fog, a 3-year-old Lost Soldier colt, will be reunited with jockey Russell Baze today. Because of a broken collarbone suffered in a spill at Golden Gate Fields, Baze was replaced by Edgar Prado when Lost In The Fog won the Riva Ridge Breeders’ Cup on June 11 at Belmont Park.

It was also believed Baze would miss the Carry Back, but the jockey made a quick recovery and returned to the saddle Wednesday at Pleasanton.

Race of the day: Contrast, who has won her first two starts by a combined 9 1/2 lengths, will make her graded stakes debut in the $250,000 Prioress today at Belmont Park. Stewart Elliott will be aboard the 3-year-old in the Grade I at six furlongs.

One for the road: Doc Robbins gets a boost in class after his second consecutive victory June 11, stepping into allowance company in today’s eighth at Churchill Downs. Mark Guidry will ride the 5-year-old Pulpit horse in the $50,800 race at 1 1/16 miles. Doc Robbins won his first for trainer Brad Cox’s barn by 6 1/4 lengths after being claimed for $20,000.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Ludicrous Speed, Celtic Mojo, Domingo Juan and Sujimoto in the fifth, Elisa’s Energy and Pink Coral in the sixth and Surf Cat and Indian Ocean in the seventh.
