Hollywood slump: It’s quality, not ideology
- Share via
Govindini Murty’s article, “Box office blues stem from blue-state bigotry” (Current, July 10), is one of the most ridiculous diatribes I have ever read. There are myriad reasons why Hollywood’s box office is in a slump -- bad movies, overpriced admissions, DVDs -- but the lack of a left- or right-wing bent is certainly not one of them. Nobody but the most fanatic ideologues want to see a cinematic screed, either liberal or conservative -- we go to the movies to escape that stuff! ) All we want are good movies and fair prices, no matter the color of the state in which we live.

Murty has an interesting take on Hollywood’s box office slump. I think some of the observations ring true about the entertainment industry having a liberal bent.
However, the problem is not that the current output is too liberal and offends half the country; it’s because the output offends most of us.
