Monsoonal moisture from Mexico made it feel even hotter Friday as temperatures hovered in the mid- to upper 80s throughout much of the Los Angeles Basin, with top readings of 112 in a couple of Southern California’s inland desert communities.

Forecasters said it could be warmer still over the weekend and into early next week.

Friday’s high temperature in downtown Los Angeles was 86 degrees, about two degrees above normal for the date.

Other area highs included 88 in Burbank, Van Nuys and Pasadena; 86 in Anaheim and San Gabriel; and 81 at Fullerton Municipal Airport.

Clouds and fog kept the coast cooler Friday. Top readings included 74 at Redondo Beach, 69 at Newport Beach and 67 at Malibu.

But skies were mostly clear over the deserts, and temperatures sizzled with highs that included 112 in Palm Springs and Hesperia, 110 in Thermal and 107 in Palmdale.

The National Weather Service predicted highs in the mid-80s to the upper 90s today in the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys, rising to over 100 in the hottest areas of the valleys on Sunday and throughout next week.

Temperatures in coastal communities should range from the 70s to the low 90s.

Los Angeles will keep the city’s senior centers open over the weekend.
