Woman Won’t Be Tried in Fatal Boat Crash
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
An Oregon woman involved in a fatal boating accident last year on Lake Shasta won’t stand trial on vehicular manslaughter and reckless boating charges.
The trial of Melinda Elaine Bentley, 26, of Tillamook, Ore., was scheduled to begin today, but Shasta County prosecutors dropped the charges against her late last week, her attorney said. Viktoria Khemchan, 26, of Clackamas, Ore., was killed Sept. 1 when her personal watercraft collided with Bentley’s boat.
