La Scala has no plans to replace former maestro Riccardo Muti yet but rather wants to dust off its image and invite younger musicians and audiences into Milan’s revered opera house, its new director said Thursday.

Stephane Lissner said he was in no hurry to replace Muti and instead had called on a group of world-class conductors including Riccardo Chailly and Daniel Barenboim to work with the orchestra and young musicians.

The first night of next season, the ultimate social event in Milan, will be conducted by Britain’s Daniel Harding, 29. The last opera of the season will be under the baton of 24-year-old Venezuelan Gustavo Dudamel.
