2001 Bodegas Muga Rioja Reserva
Run, don’t walk, to the nearest wine shop for a bottle, preferably more, of this terrific Rioja reserva from the ever-reliable Bodegas Muga. An unfiltered blend of 70% Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha and a little Mazuelo and Graciano grapes, the 2001 is silky and robust, with a big generous bouquet of cherries and raspberries, tar and toast. This is one beautiful Rioja, a benchmark for this undervalued appellation. An incredible value.
And while you’re shopping, Bodegas Muga also makes a terrific, very affordable rose for summer drinking.
