Palestinian Killed, Militant Held in West Bank Raid
Israeli troops Wednesday killed a Palestinian who was throwing stones during a raid in which an Islamic Jihad militant was captured, Palestinian officials said.
The troops, backed by tanks and bulldozers, entered Jenin about midday and surrounded the militant’s home, witnesses said.
A group of youths began throwing stones at the soldiers from a nearby building, and troops opened fire, hitting a youth in the head, witnesses said. Palestinian medical officials said Yussef Tzadek, 18, died at a nearby hospital. The officials said five other Palestinians were wounded.
The Israeli army said it fired at gunmen after troops were attacked by gunfire and explosives that wounded two soldiers. The army said it had no information on the dead youth.
An Islamic Jihad spokesman said one of the group’s members was arrested. The Israeli army declined to comment.
