Not Guilty Plea in Theft of Police Flashlight

A Westminster woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday to stealing a police officer’s flashlight during a melee that followed a speech by a foe of illegal immigration.
A pre-trial hearing was scheduled Aug. 24 for Theresa Dang, 24, charged with misdemeanor petty theft. The charge stems from a May demonstration that turned violent after an attendee at the speech forced his van through protesters.
Dang’s lawyer, B. Kwaku Duren, said outside court that he believed the charge was politically motivated, a claim prosecutors and police have denied.
