A 35-year-old woman became the first person to test positive for the West Nile virus in Orange County this year, officials said Friday. The woman, who was not identified, became ill during the first week of July with symptoms consistent with West Nile fever.

She was not hospitalized and is recovering, health officials said. They said it was unknown where the woman, who had traveled in the state, had been exposed to the virus.
