President Names New Interior Secretary
From Times Wire Reports
President Vicente Fox named Labor Secretary Carlos Abascal as his new interior secretary.
Abascal, 55, replaces Santiago Creel, who stepped down Wednesday to seek the 2006 presidential nomination of Fox’s National Action Party. Fox is barred from running again.
Abascal pledged to remain impartial during the election, the first since Fox’s victory in 2000 broke the 71-year rule of the PRI, the Institutional Revolutionary Party.
