A prosecutor has decided to skip a third trial of two former Oakland police officers accused of misconduct in the summer of 2000.

Clarence “Chuck” Mabanag, 39; Jude Siapno, 36; and Matthew Hornung, 33, who called themselves “The Riders” and worked the night shift in west Oakland, were tried on a variety of charges, including kidnapping, assault and falsifying reports.

A jury last month acquitted Hornung of the two counts against him and deadlocked on charges against Siapno. It acquitted Mabanag of one charge and deadlocked on others.
