Jet Diverted After False Hijacking Alert Is Sent

A New York-bound jetliner was diverted to Canada after sending out a false hijacking alarm. It landed in Nova Scotia and later flew on to John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Canadian fighter jets escorted Virgin Atlantic Airways’ Flight 45 to Halifax International Airport. Canadian law enforcement officials inspected the plane. Airline spokeswoman Brooke Lawer said the transponder sent out a false alert.
