A regrettable slur

Share

Scott TIMBERG’S piece about the Einstein exhibition at the Skirball Cultural Center [“Einstein Brings New Relativity,” May 22] includes the writer’s use of a derogatory term, “goyim,” that Dr. Einstein himself found extraordinarily offensive. He would never have used it because it implies “others.” Only the closest of readers would see that the term Timberg chose to use was not a quote from any source at the Skirball either, as it contradicts the spirit of our communal goals.

The Skirball Cultural Center has a broad educational mission and is dedicated to inclusion and respect for all. Since our inception nine years ago, we have been and continue to be incredibly proud to welcome diverse audiences for an inspiring mix of exhibitions and programs.

It is unfortunate that Timberg chose to use this term.
