Revolution Suffers Its First Loss

Santino Quaranta and Jamie Moreno scored and Nick Rimando earned his fifth shutout, helping D.C. United end New England’s 11-game unbeaten streak with a 2-0 victory Saturday night at Washington.

Quaranta opened the scoring in the 10th minute, getting his second goal of the season on a header. He also assisted on Moreno’s team-leading sixth goal two minutes later.

The Revolution fell to 7-1-4, one game shy of the Major League Soccer record for an unbeaten start to the season.

The Revolution came out stronger in the second half, finishing with 10 shots on goal.

“The second half wasn’t pretty,” said D.C. United Coach Peter Novak, whose team improved to 5-4-4. “Nick in the goal was outstanding.”

MetroStars 3, Columbus 2 -- Ante Razov scored two goals in a 1:47 span of the first half to help the MetroStars (5-3-5) beat the Crew (4-7-1), his former club, at East Rutherford, N.J. Razov, who was traded to the MetroStars on June 7, scored in the 31st and 33rd minutes.

Chicago 1, Kansas City 1 -- Preki scored in the 80th minute to rally the visiting Wizards (4-3-6) to a tie with the Fire (7-6-2) at Chicago. It was Kansas City’s first point in 10 games at Soldier Field and Preki’s first goal since Oct. 23, 2003.

San Jose 3, Real Salt Lake 0 -- Kelly Gray scored in his debut for the Earthquakes (4-3-6) and Mark Chung and Wade Barrett also had goals in a victory over expansion Salt Lake (3-8-2) at San Jose.
