Dial 399 on Cellphones for Roadside Assistance
Transportation officials have announced the creation of a nonemergency cellphone number that motorists can dial for roadside assistance.
The new number, 399, allows motorists traveling along Los Angeles County freeways to summon help for such problems as running out of gas or getting a flat tire.

Motorist assistance -- An article in Friday’s California section incorrectly described the new nonemergency cellphone number that motorists on Los Angeles County freeways can dial for roadside assistance with problems such as running out of gas or flat tires. Cellphone callers must first dial the pound sign and then 399, not simply 399.
Beginning July 1, motorists can dial 399 and be connected with the Auto Club or the Metro Freeway Service Patrol, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
