From Times Wire Reports

Fishermen have found the body of the former mayor of Tehama floating in the Sacramento River a few miles downstream from where he was swept away almost two years ago.

Marty Graffell, 74, had been missing since slipping into the river Aug. 1, 2003, while playing in his backyard with his dog. Searchers failed to recover his body.

On Friday, three men fishing in Vina near Deer Creek saw the body float by, secured it with a rope and called the Tehama County sheriff on a cellphone.

Investigators were able to identify the body, but an inquiry remains open pending an autopsy.

Vina is between Chico and Red Bluff.
