Wildfire Drives 1,000 From Homes
From Times Wire Reports
Shifting winds pushed a wildfire toward the small town of New Harmony in southwestern Utah, forcing more than 1,000 people to leave their homes.
By late Monday, the winds had diminished. Bureau of Land Management information officer David Boyd said homes were no longer in immediate danger.
A heavy air tanker made rare nighttime retardant drops. The National Interagency Fire Center said the blaze had burned 10,000 acres and was 30% contained.
